Asia Cup 2023 Injury Update: On the opening day of the Asia Cup 2023, Bangladesh received a setback as one of their star wicketkeeper-batters, Litton Das, has been ruled out of the entire tournament due to a viral fever.

This left him unable to participate in Bangladesh’s opening match in Pallekele, Sri Lanka.

To replace Litton Das, the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s National Selection Panel has chosen Anamul Haque Bijoy, a 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman.

Anamul is set to join the squad in Sri Lanka shortly. He has previously played in 44 ODIs for Bangladesh and has scored a total of 1254 runs, including three centuries.

His most recent ODI appearance was in December of the previous year, during a home series against India.

Minhajul Abedin, the Chairman of the National Selection Panel, noted that Anamul Haque Bijoy was a suitable replacement due to his consistent performance in domestic cricket and his involvement in the Bangladesh Tigers program.

The decision to choose a like-to-like replacement was emphasized. Bangladesh’s first encounter in the Asia Cup 2023 against co-hosts Sri Lanka on August 31st in Pallekele.

“Due to Litton’s unavailability, we needed a top-order batter who could keep wicket and Anamul got the nod.”
